Weight Loss Challenge

NHS guidelines recommend that any weight loss plan should be based on a healthy, balanced diet, encourage regular physical activity and expect you to lose no more than 0.5-1kg (1-2lb) a week.

The Weight Loss Challenge aims to help reduce weight. There is some focus on those people that are ‘apple shaped’, as it is known that they may run the greatest risk of developing ill health or disease in the future.

We do not advocate ‘out of the ordinary’ dietary plans and always advise participants to follow standard healthy eating guidelines and a moderate exercise regime. This may be achieved in a number of ways, although a structured weight loss programme is provided on this website.

Our challenge is simple

  • You can enter the challenge as an individual or as a team (maximum five participants)
  • The aim is to lose 1-2lbs (0.5-1kg) per week per participant
  • Record your weekly weight loss
  • At the end of each week, report the total amount of weight lost as an individual or team.
  • At the end of the 4-week challenge the individual and team with the most weight lost is the winner!

Weighing yourself

  • Weigh ins are based on trust
  • We suggest that you get a good set of scales
  • Some people prefer to get together for weekly weigh ins or join a class
  • Motivate each other by text, Facebook, twitter
  • Download apps such as MyNetDiary, Nutracheck’s Calorie Counter
